PATNA: Unlike other cities where film festivals remain only within the reach of the elite, the Patna Film Festival will open its arms to children from the slums, women and ordinary folks.

The festival will begin on February 11 and will continue till February 17. Special arrangements will be made to enable children studying in slum schools to watch suitable films during the festival. Also, there will be separate enclosure for women to sit and watch the movies screened during the festival.

A state government press release said before the screening of each film, experts and critics will brief the audience about the techniques and nuances of the film so that the viewers understand and appreciate the film better.

It also said that information and public relations secretary Vivek Kumar Singh on Thursday held a meeting with film critics and others associated with film making, at the Mona Cinema Hall which will be the venue for the festival.

Singh said the main purpose behind the festival was to enable people to watch well-made creative films that would awaken their interest in the world of cinema. He also said a seminar on films will be held on February 15.

While he took stock of the arrangements being made for the festival, Singh also directed the civic bodies to ensure adequate cleanliness around the venue.

At the meeting it was decided that each day during the festival, after all films are screened, officials will sit down together to see if there were any problems and how these could be tackled the following day
